Snails In Aquaponics

Snails are highly beneficial for aquaponics systems.

In aquaponics, it is very important to build a well-balanced ecosystem where both plants and aquatic life benefit each other.

Snails are very good at supporting that balance by spending their time eating benthic algae growing on the walls and bottom of the tanks.

Although some snails can eat meat; most of them will stick to algae and aquatic plants.

However, it is important to note that snails can reproduce very rapidly. Aquaponics systems overpopulated with snails can also lose its’ balance.

Therefore, many people like to introduce different snail species to control the number of other beneficial snails.

For example, Clea Helena also known as assassin sails are interesting predators that eat the other species of snails.
